Whitbread Trading Statement
Whitbread's sales for the month of December were ahead of the same period
last year with profits growing ahead of sales. This was despite the decision
to close many pubs and restaurants early on New Year's Eve .
Whitbread Inns is seeing an increase in like-for-like sales for the second
half year to-date. For the same period, Brewers Fayre sales are ahead 3.3% on
a like-for-like basis and Restaurant like-for-like sales are less than 1%
negative. David Lloyd Leisure, the Whitbread Hotel Company and Whitbread
Pub Partnerships are continuing their strong growth and positive like-for-like
performances
The Whitbread Beer Company's second half volumes year to-date are up 6% with
Boddingtons up 14%, Stella Artois up 19% and Heineken up 4%.
David Thomas, Chief Executive, said 'As expected, the second half of the
financial year is proving more positive than the first, reflecting the
determination of the Whitbread management team to achieve profit growth and to
add value for our shareholders.'
