Like-for-like sales growth for the three months to June 2, 2001 compared to
the same period last year:-
By major brands:
Marriott * 3.6%
Travel Inn 4.8%
Brewers Fayre 3.0%
Beefeater 4.7%
David Lloyd Leisure 18.8%

Total major brands 5.4%
By Whitbread's new reporting segments
Marriott / Swallow 1.2%
Travel Inn 4.8%
Pub Restaurants 3.7%
High Street Restaurants 2.0%
Sports, health and fitness 17.6%
Total ongoing business 3.9%
David Thomas, Chief Executive, said:- 'With the successful completion of the
Pubs and Bars transaction in the first quarter, our full attention is now
focused on achieving results from our three chosen business segments and I am
pleased with the performance to date of the major brands.
'Marriott did well to mitigate the effect of fewer US visitors particularly in
London and David Lloyd Leisure demonstrated the results of its drive for new
members. All UK restaurant brands were in like-for-like growth.'
