Transaction in Own Shares

Whitbread has today purchased for cancellation 122,981,408 Deferred C Shares of
1 penny each for a total consideration of 1 penny pursuant to Article 4B(I)(vi)
of its Articles of Association and the authority granted at its Annual General
Meeting held on 19 June 2007. The Deferred C Shares were created by the return
of cash carried out by means of a bonus issue of C Shares in January 2007.
