With reference to the announcement made at 17:22 today, 21 September 2007, under
RNS Number 3170E, Whitbread PLC purchased 300,000 of its 76 122/153p ordinary
shares at a price of 1622.45p per share, not at 1611.21p as previously stated.

Purchase of Own Shares


Whitbread PLC announces that on 21 September 2007 it purchased 300,000 of its
76 122/153p ordinary shares at a price of 1622.45p per share. Whitbread PLC
purchased these shares via Deutsche Bank AG, London Branch.


The shares purchased will be held as treasury shares. Following the above
purchase, Whitbread PLC holds 7,280,296 shares in treasury.


The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares) is
191,034,085.
