For Immediate Release 9 December 2002
WILMINGTON GROUP PLC
APPOINTMENT OF NEW CHAIRMAN AND RETIREMENT OF BRIAN GILBERT
Wilmington Group plc ('Wilmington' or the 'Group') announces that Bernard
Jolles will become its non-executive Chairman with effect from 1 January 2003.
He will succeed Brian Gilbert (59) who has decided to retire as Chairman and
stand down from the board on 31 December 2002. Mr Gilbert has led Wilmington
since its flotation in 1995.
Bernard Jolles (53) joined the Board of Wilmington in July 2001. He is currently
senior non-executive Director, Chairman of the Group's Audit Committee and a
member of the Remuneration and Nomination Committees.
Commenting on his retirement and the new appointment, Brian Gilbert said:
'After more than a decade of close association with the Wilmington group of
companies, I am delighted to have Bernard succeed me as Chairman. In the 18
months since he joined the board, my colleagues and I have all benefited from
his sound advice and counsel. With his 25 years of corporate finance and City
experience, I am confident that Bernard has all the necessary qualities to guide
the company through the years ahead.'
'These are demanding times for all of us in the business communications
industry, but I am certain that the company, under the leadership of Bernard and
our Chief Executive, Charles Brady, is well equipped to take advantage of the
opportunities available. As a significant shareholder, I look to the future
development of Wilmington with real optimism.'
Wilmington Chief Executive, Charles Brady, said:
'Brian Gilbert has made a uniquely significant contribution to Wilmington and
its associated companies over many years. He is an energetic and passionate
leader from whom I have learnt much and I would like to wish him a long and
happy retirement. I am equally very pleased that Bernard has agreed to become
the Chairman of the Group and I look forward to working with him during the next
phase of the Group's development.'
Bernard Jolles said:
'I am delighted to become Chairman of Wilmington. Following in the footsteps of
Brian Gilbert, given all that he has achieved in the publishing industry, is a
demanding challenge. However, he retires from a group which has fine businesses,
is financially strong and has a committed and talented management team under the
leadership of Charles Brady and Finance Director, Basil Brookes.'
