                    Appointment of non - executive Director


Wincanton plc, the leading European Supply Chain solutions company, is pleased
to announce that Mr David Edmonds CBE is joining the Board with immediate effect
as a non-executive Director.

Mr Edmonds, age 60, has a wealth of business experience, in both the public and
private sectors.  He is currently Chair of the Board of NHS Direct and
previously spent five years as Director General of Telecommunications.  Before
that he was at the Natwest Group.

Mr Edmonds is continuing as a Board member of OFCOM until early in the New Year
and is also a Board member of the Legal Services Commission and a non -
executive Director of Hammerson plc.

Victor Benjamin, Chairman of Wincanton said:  'I am delighted to welcome David
to the Board.  He will add considerable breadth of experience and thinking that
will be extremely helpful as Wincanton continues to grow.'

There is no information, as is referred to in paragraph 6.F.2 (b) to (9) of the
