£72m of contract wins and renewals
Wincanton reports continuing momentum in the UK
Wincanton plc ('Wincanton' or the 'Group'), the leading European supply chain solutions provider, is pleased to announce a contract win with Marley Eternit Limited, part of the Etex Group, and contract renewals with long-term customers Focus (DIY) Ltd and a global industrial gas supplier. These contracts will generate a combined turnover of more than £72 million for the Group and confirm the continuing momentum in the Group's development pipeline.
The five-year contract with Marley Eternit, further consolidates Wincanton's leadership position in construction logistics and involves the transportation of over 280,000 tonnes of roofing products each year to customers across the UK. This builds on an original contract award in July 2008 for two sites, and will enable Wincanton to consolidate deliveries for Marley Eternit, reducing the number of vehicles on the road and minimising empty running.
Wincanton has also been awarded a three-year contract extension by Focus DIY for its national warehousing operations, which takes the partnership into its 15th year. Under the extended contract, Wincanton will manage the storage of over 28 million cases of DIY products as well as internet fulfilment operations from the dedicated Tamworth site, which serves the retailer's 181 stores.
In the energy sector, Wincanton has extended its 15-year partnership with a global industrial gas supplier for a further three years with the option for an additional two-year renewal. The extended contract involves the national distribution of packaged gases in the UK. Wincanton will deliver significant cost savings and productivity gains through optimisation of the asset base and a strategic review of distribution patterns.
Graeme McFaull, Wincanton Chief Executive commented:
'We are delighted to be expanding our relationship with Marley and extending our long-standing partnership with Focus DIY.
Lower costs, without loss of operational efficiency, are particularly critical to all our customers in today's market. Wincanton is successfully working with its customers to meet these productivity challenges.'
