                            PRE-CLOSE SEASON UPDATE

Wincanton plc today issues the following pre-close season update for the six
months ending 30 September 2005:

'Our focus on strength in national markets, combined with Pan-European
capability, is generating opportunities for continuing growth across Europe with
our blue-chip customer portfolio.

Levels of new business activity have remained encouraging, a significant
programme of contract start-ups has been successfully implemented and we have
again delivered the highest standards of operational efficiency for our
customers.

It is currently anticipated that a good first half performance will be sustained
for the full year.'
