Windar Photonics announcing new order for the Indian National Institute of Wind Energy
Windar Photonics plc (AIM:WPHO), the technology group that has developed a cost efficient and innovative LiDAR wind sensor for use on electricity generating wind turbines, is pleased to announce that the Company has won a public tender for a multi-beam LiDAR system from the Indian National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) for immediate delivery.
NIWE is an autonomous research institute under the Indian Government's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and a leading Indian institution within the fields of wind turbine technology research, resource assessment, and verification of wind turbine technology according to the IEC standards. Additionally, NIWE serves as a certification body for wind turbine technology for the Indian market, with the explicit purpose of ensuring compatibility between the meteorological conditions in India, and technologies that have been developed and certified for other regions in the world.
The LiDAR systems are intended for installation during the first quarter of 2017 on a wind turbine produced by an Indian OEM, where the LiDAR systems will be used for turbine optimization. The integration of the LiDAR enables the wind turbine to yaw and pitch according to the oncoming wind, increasing the annually generated power by as much as 1-4% and enhancing the life span of the wind turbine.
Jørgen Korsgaard Jensen, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Company, commented:
"The order from NIWE is another positive development for Windar Photonics in the Indian market, as NIWE is a well-respected institution within the Indian wind energy industry. The expected verification by NIWE of our LiDAR systems is an important step forward, supporting our future business in India."
