Windar Photonics announces a repeat order from a European IPP
Windar Photonics plc (AIM:WPHO), the technology group that has developed a cost efficient and innovative LIDAR wind sensor for use on electricity generating wind turbines, is pleased to announce a repeat order for four units of the Company's 4-beam WindVision™ LiDAR sensor from a French IPP which operates a fleet of wind turbine generators totaling 77MW in France. The direct turbine control integration of the LIDAR sensors will be undertaken by the customer on Vestas V112 3MW wind turbines during Q1 2017.
The direct integration enables the wind turbine to further enhance the energy production and lifetime of the turbine, while reducing excessive load cycles and costs associated with lost operating time. Additionally, the WindVision™ sensors will be equipped with our newly developed wake detection algorithms. This new feature enables our sensors to detect if the incoming wind flow is distorted by nearby wind turbines in a wind park, which typically reduces the lifetime of the wind turbine's critical components.
This new installation will also be part of the previously announced "Wake Detection and Turbine Optimization" program which the Company and DTU launched in Q4 2016. Besides the wake detection capabilities the main focus of the program is to develop new and unique turbine control strategies that can negate the load cycles caused by the different wake scenarios.
Jørgen Korsgaard Jensen, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Company, commented:
"I am very pleased with this new order being our first order for our 4-beam WindVision system to the retro-fit market segment. Lately, we have seen an increasing interest in our unique wake detection capabilities from both IPPs and OEMs. This will be our fourth commercial partner to join the program and over the coming months we expect to expand the program to between eight to ten commercial partners."
