WITAN INVESTMENT TRUST PLC
26 April 2002
NEW CHAIRMAN
Witan Investment Trust plc, the £1.67 billion global growth investment trust,
today confirmed the appointment of its next Chairman. In April 2003 Harry
Henderson is to succeed Lord Faringdon, who will be 65 this year. Henderson, who
retires as a senior executive of Cazenove Group plc on 30 April 2002, is a major
private shareholder in Witan and has been a non-executive Director of the Trust
since 1988.
50 year-old Henderson has enjoyed a long and successful track record in the
City, the fund management industry in particular. He entered the business in
1988, having worked previously as an analyst and an institutional salesman. As
Managing Director (1988-1998), Henderson was instrumental in the conception and
launch of Cazenove Unit Trust Management Limited. He was appointed Managing
Director of Cazenove Fund Management Limited in 1996, and in 1999 was asked to
set up a new Cazenove business - Private Wealth Services.
At the same time, the Trust confirmed that Robert Colvill, formerly Finance
Director of Marks and Spencer p.l.c., has succeeded Lord Inchyra as Chairman of
both the Audit Committee and the Management Engagement Committee. Robert Colvill
has been a non-executive Director of Witan since 1994.
The Directors recognise that this announcement marks the end of an era. When
Lord Faringdon steps down next year, he will have chaired the Trust for some 23
years. However, they believe that Harry Henderson possesses the type of
experience, drawn from his days at Cazenove and from his 14 years as a Director
of Witan, to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
