                Wood Group appoints new Non-Executive Director

John Wood Group PLC ('Wood Group') is pleased to announce the appointment of
Neil H. Smith as a Non-Executive Director. Neil joined the Wood Group Board on
1st November 2004.

'We are delighted to welcome Neil to the Group Board,' said Sir Ian Wood,
Chairman and Chief Executive of Wood Group. 'Neil's international business
experience plus his significant global experience within the power generation
industry will be a great asset to the Group.'

Appointed President & Chief Operating Officer of InterGen, a global power
generation company (a Shell-Bechtel venture) in July 2002, Neil has held various
management positions with InterGen since its inception in 1994 covering the UK,
Latin America and Asia-Pacific regions.

Neil Smith said, 'I am looking forward to participating as a Non-Executive
Director of a successful global energy services business and, in particular, to
contributing to the growth of Wood Group's Gas Turbine Services' power
activities worldwide.'
