The Company has been advised today that the Trustees of the Company's Employee
Share Ownership Plan (ESOP) purchased 506,770 ordinary shares of 10p each in the
Company on Friday 13th September 2002 at a price of 1030p.

The executive directors of the Company are interested in part of the shares held
in the ESOP and, following this notification, the total number of shares held in
the ESOP amounts to 699,190 ordinary shares of 10p each, which amounts to 4.21%
of the issued share capital of the Company.
