WPP ACQUIRES THE BRAND UNION
Creatively-acclaimed corporate identity specialists
Lambie-Nairn and branding/packaging company Tutssels
join WPP
WPP Group plc ('WPP') announces that it has acquired The
Brand Union Limited, the parent company of Lambie-Nairn,
one of the world's most respected branding companies
famed for changing the face of British television and
award-winning branding and packaging specialists,
Tutssels. The third company within The Brand Union is
The Clinic, a commercials production company.
London-based Lambie-Nairn was founded 23 years ago by
Martin Lambie-Nairn, and fast established a reputation
for its ground-breaking work for clients in the media,
including the much-feted original Channel 4 and current
BBC corporate identities (the famous BBC '2's' and the
BBC1 balloon). Lambie-Nairn's clients also include New
Millenium Experience Company, Carlton, NCR and British
Telecom.
Branding and packaging specialists, Tutssels also London-
based, is renowned for its innovative work for clients
such as UDV, Bass and Glaxo-Wellcome in the drinks and
healthcare sectors. In the last five years it has won
numerous creative and design effectiveness awards.
In total, The Brand Union employs 80 people with a
turnover of £12million. The company had net assets of
£1.3million at 31 December 1998.
Commenting on the initiative, Martin Sorrell, WPP's chief
executive, said: 'I have been a personal admirer of
Lambie-Nairn's consistently innovative and creative work
for many years and I am delighted they are joining WPP.
This move is a natural additional to our Branding and
Identity portfolio and is an incredible opportunity for
WPP to strengthen its creative reputation and its offer
of the very best in branding and identity to our clients
worldwide.'
Martin Lambie-Nairn said: 'Becoming a member of WPP's

growth plans faster than our own resources would have
allowed.

Glenn Tutssel, executive creative director of Tutssels,

credentials on a well-established creative reputation and

within the Group.'
All three companies will continue to operate autonomously
within WPP's Branding & Identity, Healthcare and
Specialist Communications division, working alongside WPP
companies Addison, BDG McColl, Coley Porter Bell and
Enterprise IG.
