WPP ('WPP')ACQUIRES POLISH MARKET RESEARCH AGENCY
Strengthens Position in Media Research
WPP Group plc ('WPP') announces that it has agreed to
acquire 47% of SMG/KRC Poland Media Sp.z.o.o ('SMG'),
Polands leading market research agency, and entered into
options to acquire the remaining 53%, on behalf of its
global media research network, Kantar Media Research
('KMR').
Clients of SMG include Coca-Cola, Colgate, Danone, Johnson &
Johnson, Nestle and Unilever, as well as government bodies
and advertising agencies in Poland.
SMG had revenues of PLZ 32,200,000 for the year ended 31
December 1998 and net assets of PLZ 7,716,000 as at 31
December 1998 at the same date.
This investment continues WPPs strategy of developing its
information and consulting businesses (collectively known as
the Kantar Group) through a combination of organic growth
and growth by acquisition.
Within Kantar, which is the parent company that represents
WPPs information and consultancy interests worldwide, KMR
represents the Groups global media research interests.
The acquisition will strengthen the presence of the KMR
network in a fast growing and increasingly important market
for advertising and media research in Central and Eastern
Europe. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval
in Poland.
