WPP Group PLC 16 June 2000 WPP in joint venture with US multi-cultural communications firm WPP Group plc ('WPP') announces it has entered into a strategic alliance and acquired 49% of the equity of UniWorld Group, Inc., a leading African- American and multi- cultural marketing communications company. Headquartered in the US, with offices in New York and Los Angeles, UniWorld serves such major Fortune 500 clients as AT&T, Colgate, Burger King, Ford Motor Company and Microsoft. UniWorld had reported billings of $230 million in 1999 and net assets of $1.9 million at 31 December 1999. The company employs more than 150 people and has several specialized divisions, including UniWorld Hispanic and Urban Force, a wholly-owned urban youth marketing subsidiary. The agency was named 'Agency of the Year' in the current issue of Black Enterprise Magazine. UniWorld will continue to operate as a separate business, working with various WPP companies to form co-operative ventures when it is beneficial to clients, including Mendoza Dillon and Asociados, a leading Hispanic agency; and the Market Segment Group, a brand consultancy specializing in multi-cultural and segmented markets.
