WPP in joint venture with US multi-cultural communications
firm
WPP Group plc ('WPP') announces it has entered into a
strategic alliance and acquired 49% of the equity of
UniWorld Group, Inc., a leading African- American and multi-
cultural marketing communications company.
Headquartered in the US, with offices in New York and Los
Angeles, UniWorld serves such major Fortune 500 clients as
AT&T, Colgate, Burger King, Ford Motor Company and
Microsoft.
UniWorld had reported billings of $230 million in 1999 and
net assets of $1.9 million at 31 December 1999. The company
employs more than 150 people and has several specialized
divisions, including UniWorld Hispanic and Urban Force, a
wholly-owned urban youth marketing subsidiary. The agency
was named 'Agency of the Year' in the current issue of
Black Enterprise Magazine.
UniWorld will continue to operate as a separate business,
working with various WPP companies to form co-operative
ventures when it is beneficial to clients, including Mendoza
Dillon and Asociados, a leading Hispanic agency; and the
Market Segment Group, a brand consultancy specializing in
multi-cultural and segmented markets. The relationship will
also allow UniWorld to leverage WPP's capabilities in
research, healthcare, promotion and event marketing, media
investment management, and interactive and new media.
