WPP GROUP PLC ('the Company')

WPP Group plc has been informed on 28 September 1999, Mr Brian Brooks, a
director of the Company, exercised options over 68,967 Ordinary Shares of 10p
each in WPP Group plc at £2.335 per share under the Company's Executive Share
Option Scheme.

The Company has also been informed that Mr Brooks on 28 September 1999 sold
49,967 of the resultant Ordinary Shares of 10p each in the Company at a price
of £5.53 per share to finance the exercise and provide for resultant tax
liabilities. 

Mr Brooks resultant beneficial holding is therefore 346,518 shares,
representing 0.045% of the issued Ordinary Share capital of the Company.
