WPP GROUP PLC ('WPP')

Following the merger of CGU plc and Norwich Union plc, WPP has been informed
that the combined entity, CGNU plc, has, as a result of their combined
interests, a notifiable interest under Section 198 to 202 of the Companies Act
1985 in WPP.  The notifiable interests are:-

Morley Fund Management Limited                         14,403,176
Norwich Union Investment Management Limited            11,924,733

Total CGNU plc Holding                                 26,327,909

This holding represents 3.4% of WPP's issued Ordinary Share Capital.
