J. Walter Thompson acquires
Interactive Marketing Concepts in Canada
WPPs wholly-owned operating company, J. Walter Thompson
('JWT'), the global advertising agency group, announces the
acquisition of Interactive Marketing Concepts, Inc. ('IMC'),
a strategic e-business marketing company based in Toronto,
Canada.
Founded in 1996, IMC specialises in e-business marketing
solutions that combine direct marketing and digital
offerings to clients such as Parke Davis, Dairy Farmers of
Ontario, NATO and Liberty Health.
Under the leadership of Stuart Sherman, its current
president, IMC will operate as an independent brand of JWT
Canada. Since its launch under Sherman, IMC has experienced
strong growth during each year of operation. In 1999, the
company, which employs 25 people, reported revenues of
C$2million for the year ended 30 November 1999 and had net
assets of C$53,140 at 10 March 2000.
Chris Jones, CEO of JWT said, 'Our continued expansion in
digital and interactive communications is a key part of our
strategy to position JWT for leadership in the new marketing
landscape. IMC gives JWT Canada another significant edge in
mobilizing the power of brands online.'
JWT is the fourth largest advertising agency in the world
with offices in 87 countries. Its clients include De Beers,
Ford, Kellogg, Kraft, Merrill Lynch, Pepsi and Unilever.
This initiative continues WPPs strategy of strengthening
its businesses in growth areas, such as e-business marketing
communications.
