Xaar PLC 08 February 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8 February 2008 Xaar plc EFI-JETRION TO USE XAAR 1001 PRINTHEAD IN NEW LABEL PRESSES Alliance brings increased affordability, flexibility to narrow web converters Xaar plc ('Xaar'), the inkjet printing technology group headquartered in Cambridge, and EFI-Jetrion today announce an agreement whereby Xaar's revolutionary 1001 piezoelectric printheads will be supplied for use in EFI-Jetrion's 4000 Series full colour UV label printers for the first time. Earlier models of this printing press were first shown last autumn at Labelexpo Europe; the Jetrion 4000 Series of UV inkjet printers bring narrow web converters an affordable, full-color alternative to toner-based printers. By incorporating Xaar's latest inkjet technology into the Jetrion 4000 series printers, converters will benefit from added flexibility and cost-effectiveness for applications such as labels, tags, forms and tickets on a variety of substrates. Available in web widths of 5.5' (139 mm) or 8.3' (210 mm), the printer uses 8 or 12 Xaar 1001 heads. According to Dr Kenneth Stack, Vice President and General Manager of EFI-Jetrion: 'We chose the Xaar 1001 head because we needed a printhead that offered the high reliability required for web applications. With Xaar's dynamically variable drop size capability, the Xaar 1001 means EFI Jetrion's 4000 Series can take full advantage of Jetrion's industry leading ink technology and EFI's Fiery XF colour management solutions.' Chris Lynn, VP Sales & Marketing of Xaar's US subsidiary company, added: 'We're delighted to formalise our long-standing relationship with EFI-Jetrion through this agreement, and excited about the growing prospects for use of our inkjet technology in narrow web digital printing. By controlling all aspects of the printing process, from colour correction to ink formulation, EFI-Jetrion has achieved stunning image quality that is sure to accelerate market demand for these digital solutions.' As part of this agreement, Xaar is qualifying EFI-Jetrion's range of UV inks for use with the Xaar 1001 printhead to ensure that a functional, integrated solution is delivered to the market. The integration of Xaar's technology into these high quality digital printers highlights Xaar's growing presence in the digital label printing industry. Xaar's unique combination of 'greyscale' (dynamically variable drops) and its patented Hybrid Side-ShooterTM platform with TF TechnologyTM is ideal for high-quality, single-pass printing: fine details, smooth tones and readable text can be reproduced reliably and consistently. Xaar-enabled Jetrion 4000 digital label printers are available immediately for early customer shipments and are expected to be available in production quantities by 2nd Quarter 2008.
