Toshiba Agreement

Xaar PLC 9 April 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 9 April 2002 Xaar plc DEVELOPMENT & MANUFACTURING COLLABORATION WITH TOSHIBA TEC and NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT Xaar plc ('Xaar'), the ink jet printing technology group headquartered in Cambridge, has signed a new collaboration agreement with Toshiba TEC, part of Toshiba Corporation, for manufacturing and supplying Xaar branded ink jet printheads. Following Toshiba TEC's upgrade of their Xaar Licence last year, the two companies are now working closely together. Xaar's applications and design experience is being combined with Toshiba TEC's substantial product development and manufacturing capabilities to make and sell new printhead products into commercial and industrial markets. Manufactured at Toshiba TEC's plant in Mishima, Japan, these printheads will be marketed as XaarJet branded products. The first product to come from this collaboration is a new, full greyscale printhead designed for delivering the highest quality, 'near photographic' printing onto plastics such as smart cards, ID cards, CD decoration and other packaging applications including carton and label printing. This product is being launched today at the IPEX 2002 exhibition in Birmingham, UK. First deliveries of manufactured products from the Toshiba TEC / Xaar collaboration are due later this year with volume shipments expected during 2003. Jan Fineman, Xaar's Chief Executive, commented : 'The collaboration with Toshiba TEC represents a valuable addition to our existing design, development and manufacturing capabilities. Looking forward, it will enable Xaar to expand production more rapidly than already planned without the associated capital investment by drawing on Toshiba TEC's substantial high technology manufacturing resources. It will also help deliver XaarJet branded products into wider markets.'
