YOUNG & CO.'S BREWERY, P.L.C.
Chairman's AGM Trading Statement
In his statement to shareholders at today's AGM, John
Young, Chairman of Young & Co's Brewery PLC made the
following comments about current trading:
'The benefits of our strategy continue to bear fruit and
I am pleased to report that trading during the first 13
weeks has been encouraging. Volumes, turnover and profit
are all ahead of the same period last year, with strong
performances from the free trade and from the brewery,
which is benefiting from the brewing and bottling
contracts secured at the beginning of this calendar year.
'We continue to pursue opportunities for expanding our
retail estate and anticipate further acquisitions and new
openings during the course of the year. Finch's, our
recently opened contemporary bar in Finsbury Square, is
trading well and we are progressing our plans to open
three more sites in central Oxford, Chelmsford and
Slough.
'We also continue to take steps to build on our success
in the take home market, and in June this year we
acquired Waggle Dance, a leading national bottle beer
brand, from Vaux. This acquisition will help to further
increase our penetration into this important market.
'In light of the results to date and the continued
implementation of our strategy, we are confident that
Young's will make further progress in the year ahead.'
