IMI plc, formerly known as Imperial Metal Industries, is a British-based engineering company listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
The company was founded by Scottish entrepreneur George Kynoch in 1862, who opened a percussion cap factory in Witton, West Midlands. Over the years, the business diversified, manufacturing goods ranging from soap and bicycle components to non-ferrous metals. The company became fully independent in 1978.
Today, IMI plc is a major international manufacturer of advanced and high technology products in areas such as Building Products, Drinks Dispense, Fluid Power, and Engineering.
The IMI share price is traded under the ticker symbol 'IMI' on the LSE.
