Johnson Matthey Plc, traded as JMAT on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), is a British multinational speciality chemicals and sustainable technologies company.
Founded in 1817 by Percival Norton Johnson as a gold assayer in London, George Matthey joined the business in 1851, and the name was changed to Johnson & Matthey. The following year, the firm was appointed the official assayer and refiner to the Bank of England. Over the years, Johnson Matthey has expanded its holdings and made several acquisitions.
Today, it operates in over 30 countries and employs over 12,000 staff. Johnson Matthey is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index on the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).
