Severn Trent plc, traded as SVT on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), is a water company based in Coventry, England.
It was formed in 1974 as a regional, state-owned water authority based in Birmingham. The company was responsible for water management and supply, and wastewater treatment and disposal, in the catchment areas of two of Britain’s largest rivers – the Severn and the Trent. It was from these rivers that the company took its name.
In July 1989, the Severn Trent Water Authority was partially privatised under the Water Act 1989, together with the rest of the water supply and sewage disposal industry in England and Wales, to form Severn Trent Water. Today, it supplies 4.6 million households and businesses across the Midlands and Wales.
SVT share price launched at 487p in 1989.
