Tate & Lyle PLC was informed on 18 July 2003 that Barclays PLC and its
subsidiaries held 48,743,996 ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC on 14
July 2003 which is a notifiable interest under Section 199 of the
Companies Act 1985, being 10.11 per cent. of the nominal value of the
relevant share capital.
Barclays PLC and its subsidiaries had previously reported a material
interest in 28,968,069 ordinary shares on 22 May 2003 which was then
6.01% of the nominal value of the relevant share capital. On that
date, Barclays PLC and its subsidiaries had also held a non-material
interest of 3.39% of the nominal value of the relevant share capital
(which had not been a notifiable interest at that time). Accordingly,
their combined material and non-material holding at 22 May 2003 had
been 9.40%.
