Transaction in Own Shares

Tate & Lyle PLC ('the Company') announces that on 16 April 2008 it transferred
45,002 ordinary shares in the Company for the purpose of satisfying awards under
the Tate & Lyle 2003 Performance Share Plan. These shares were previously held
in Treasury.

Following the above transfer, the Company holds 2,235,138 ordinary shares in
treasury and has 457,692,812 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury
shares).
