Fraport Traffic Figures - November 2008
FRANKFURT/MAIN, Germany, December 11 /PRNewswire/ --
- Weak Demand Continues - Group Traffic up for the January-to-November
Period
The current global economic slump is also affecting air
traffic worldwide. Frankfurt Airport (FRA) served 3.9 million passengers in
November 2008, a drop of 7.0 percent year-on-year. Recording the smallest
decline, intercontinental passenger traffic slipped by 3.1 percent.
Airfreight throughput fell by 8.2 percent to 176,230 metric tons. Aircraft
movements shrank by 3.4 percent to 38,733 takeoffs and landings. Only the
number of intercontinental passenger flights increased by 0.5 percent.
Total maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) dropped by 1.1 percent
in the reporting month, while the accumulated figure for the first eleven
months of 2008 rose by 1.0 percent to 26.3 million metric tons. The number of
passengers at Frankfurt Airport dipped by 1.0 percent to 49.7 million in the
January-to-November 2008 period. Within this decline, the attractive
intercontinental passenger segment still achieved 1.2 percent growth.
Airfreight tonnage slipped slightly by 0.3 percent to 1.9 million metric
tons. With 449,528 takeoffs and landings, aircraft movements were 1.1 percent
lower than in the first eleven months of 2007.
Most of the Fraport Group's majority-owned airports recorded
passenger growth in November 2008: Bulgaria's Varna (VAR) and Burgas (BOJ)
airports on the Black Sea coast rose by 18.6 and 37.5 percent respectively,
Antalya Airport (AYT) in Turkey by 3.9 percent and Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru
by 3.3 percent. Only Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) ebbed by 1.2 percent.
All of the Group's airports, including FRA, reported 1.1
percent growth in the January-to-November 2008 period, raising the total
number of passengers to 73.1 million. The cargo segment (airfreight plus
airmail) advanced by 1.0 percent to 2.3 million metric tons and aircraft
movements climbed by 1.6 percent to 672,829 takeoffs and landings.
