Pre-Close Briefing

Investec plc - pre-close briefing and IFRS transition statement

Investec will be releasing its results for the six months to 30 September 2005
on 17 November 2005 and will be reporting these results under International
Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

The management of Investec will host a pre-close briefing on Wednesday, 21
September 2005 commencing at 09:00 (UK time) / 10:00 (South African time). A
presentation will be given, focusing on:

  * developments within the core business areas and the group since Investec's
    year end results
   
  * how the changes in accounting treatment under IFRS will impact on the
    group's previously reported financial information for the year ended 31
    March 2005 prepared under UK Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
   
All interested parties may attend the presentation at Investec's London,
Johannesburg or Cape Town offices. Furthermore, for those people who are unable
to attend the briefing, the following options will be available:

  * A toll free telephone conference facility.
   
  * A DELAYED webcasting of the presentation will be available on the Internet
    via www.investec.com.
