BEIJING, September 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Elsevier, the leading global publisher
of scientific, technical and
medical information products and services, announced today that Hugo Zhang
has been appointed the Managing Director of Elsevier Science & Technology in
China.
Hugo succeeds Sharon Ruwart who served in this role from 2006-2008,
guiding Elsevier in Beijing to become the largest office in China among all
foreign publishers. Hugo's main responsibility will be to ensure that
Elsevier remains China's primary science and technology partner by offering
sustainable, high quality information and workflow solutions.

Hugo brings to his new position relevant experience in strategic
planning, publishing, and publicity from both within and outside of the
publishing industry. Prior to joining Elsevier in 2007 as Business
Development and Marketing Director responsible for S&T books sales and
business development in greater China and Korea, Hugo held diverse management
roles within the Chinese Central Government including the Director of Book
Publishing Policy Programs in the Publicity Department. As a promising
scholar and civil servant, Hugo researching cultural industries and policy at
the University of Ottawa and Simon Fraser University in Canada from 2002 - 3.
The previous year, he served as the Assistant Mayor of Yao City in Shaanxi
Province from 2000-2001.
Hugo holds a degree from Lanzhou University, and is the author of several
books including National Interests and Cultural Policy, Cultural Industries
and Policy in a Globalizing World and Culture, and the translator of Trade
and Globalization and Our Creative Diversity - World Culture Committee
Report.
