EMIRATES TAKES TOTALCARE ON ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT 500s
Rolls-Royce announced today that Emirates Airline has signed a long-term
TotalCare services agreement valued at $340 million covering fleet management
of the carrier's Trent 500 engines. The contract relates to ten Rolls-Royce
powered Airbus A340-500 aircraft.
Under the contract, Emirates will hand over full responsibility for management
of the engine fleet at an agreed dollar rate per flying hour.
Adel Al-Redha, Emirates' Executive Vice-President - Engineering and Operations,
said: "TotalCare provides us with a complete engine management solution that is
specifically tailored to our operation, and allows Emirates to more accurately
forecast engine maintenance cost."
Mick Forey, Senior Vice-President - Airlines at Rolls-Royce, added: "Airlines
are increasingly understanding the benefits that TotalCare agreements bring to
their business. This contract further strengthens our relationship with
Emirates as it will enable us to offer an even greater level of support to
their operations."
In addition to its ten A340-500s, Emirates also currently operates 29 Airbus
A330s and 21 Boeing 777s, all powered by Rolls-Royce Trents. At the Dubai
Airshow last month, Emirates placed an order worth $8.4 billion for Trent XWB
engines for up to 120 Airbus A350 XWBs. These engines will also be covered by a
long-term maintenance agreement.
NOTE TO EDITORS:
1. Approximately half of today's Rolls-Royce civil engines fleet is covered by
TotalCare, or equivalent CorporateCare agreements for the business jet
market.
2. Over 90 per cent of Trent 500s are managed through TotalCare contracts.
3. The Trent 500 is the sole powerplant on growth versions of the four-engined
A340, which began commercial operations in 2002.
4. Rolls-Royce has a growing presence in the Middle East, where it is playing
an important role in the development of the region across all the Group's
sectors - civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy.
5. The Trent engine family has been ordered by many Middle East customers,
including Qatar, Emirates, DAE, Etihad, ALAFCO and Gulf Air, powering
Boeing 777s, A330s, A350 XWBs and A340s. In addition, Etihad will be the
first operator in the region of the Trent-powered A380. The International
Aero Engines V2500 is also operated widely.
6. TotalCare, tailored for individual operators, offers a range of services
from Rolls-Royce covering all aspects of asset management in support of its
Civil Aerospace products. Building on the company's knowledge, experience
and infrastructure, these services include elements such as predictive
maintenance, logistics management, and global repair and overhaul
offerings. TotalCare can remove uncertainties from engine management and
improve operational reliability for operators through a mutually aligned
business relationship.
7. Rolls-Royce, a world-leading provider of power systems and services for use
on land, at sea and in the air, operates in four global markets - civil
aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy. The Group has a broad
customer base comprising 600 airlines, 4,000 corporate and utility aircraft
operators, 160 armed forces, more than 2,000 marine customers and energy
customers in 120 countries.
8. Rolls-Royce is continually improving the environmental impact of its
products. Each year the company, in collaboration with its partners,
invests around £700 million on research and development, two thirds of which has the
objective of reducing the environmental impact of its products and
operations. This technology investment is primarily aimed at reducing noise
and emissions.
