ROLLS-ROYCE CONFIRMS TRENT XWB ORDER WITH CIT
Rolls-Royce today confirmed that the Trent XWB will power the seven Airbus A350
XWBs ordered by US leasing company, CIT, in an order worth around $300 million
at engine list prices. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2014.
Jeff Knittel, President, CIT Aerospace, said: "As the Trent XWB has been
specifically designed for the A350 XWB, it will clearly produce the optimum
levels of performance that our customers require. They continue to give us
positive feedback on their experiences with the Trent series and I'm confident
this latest version will maintain that reputation."
Mark King, Chief Commercial Officer, Civil Large Engines at Rolls-Royce, added:
"As an established and respected leasing company, CIT plays a big part in
penetrating new markets with our products. Their decision to purchase these
Trent-powered A350 XWBs signals their confidence in the programme and the
products."
The Trent XWB is the only engine available for the A350 XWB and will power all
versions of the aircraft. It is tailored for the specific requirements of the
family and is not compromised by a design based on other applications.
NOTE TO EDITORS:
1. There are now 133 Trent-powered A350 XWBs on order with four customers.
2. The 75,000 - 95,000lb thrust Trent XWB is the sixth member of the
three-shaft Trent engine series and is being developed specifically for the
Airbus A350 XWB twinjet. It is available for deliveries from mid-2013 and
will be certificated at 95,000lbs from entry into service.
3. Final engine configuration and selection of technologies is scheduled to be
completed by mid-2008. The first Trent XWB will be ground tested in 2010.
In 2011, the engine will make its maiden flight on a flying test bed,
followed by airworthiness certification and first flight on the A350 XWB in
2012.
4. The Trent XWB will be the only engine specifically developed and fully
optimised for the 250-375 seat A350 XWB family and will utilise the latest
available technology at entry into service to give the best performance and
the lowest environmental impact.
5. By the time the Trent XWB enters service, Trent series engines will have
accumulated more than 75 million flying hours.
6. Rolls-Royce employs more than 7,300 people in North America at more than 64
locations. Activities in North America generate nearly $1 billion annually
to US suppliers, supporting around 11,000 additional US jobs.
7. Rolls-Royce is working hard to improve the environmental impact of its
products. Each year Rolls-Royce, in collaboration with its partners,
invests around £700 million on research and development, two thirds of
which has the objective of reducing the environmental impact of its
products. This technology investment is primarily aimed at reducing noise
and emissions.
8. CIT Aerospace, a unit of CIT Group Inc. (NYSE: CIT), provides financing
solutions to a broad spectrum of the global aerospace value chain ranging
from operators of commercial and business aircraft to manufacturers and
suppliers in the aerospace and defense industries as well as financial
institutions. www.CIT.com
