ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT A330 WIN C0MPLETES LUFTHANSA TRIPLE
Lufthansa, the German flag carrier, has selected the Rolls-Royce Trent 700
engine for ten firm Airbus A330s, it was announced today (9 January). The order
means the airline's fleet of three types of new-generation Airbus jets will all
be Rolls-Royce powered.
Lufthansa has already selected the Trent 900 for its A380s, and has ordered the
A340-600, for which the Trent 500 is the sole engine. Today's order is for the
72,000lb thrust Trent 772B engine. The first of the new twinjets will be
delivered in January 2004.
Charles Cuddington, Managing Director - Airlines, Rolls-Royce, said: 'This is
an important decision by Lufthansa because they will now fly three members of
the Trent series on their future Airbus widebody fleet. All three selections
followed intensive evaluations by this world-leading airline.'
The Trent 700 was the first of the series to enter service, beginning
commercial operations on the A330 in 1995. It has now been chosen by a total of
24 A330 customers and operators - more than either of its two competitors -
resulting in the engine's market-leading share of over 40 per cent of firm and
option aircraft orders.
