ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $400M TRENT ORDERS FROM LEASING COMPANIES
Rolls-Royce today announced orders from leasing companies AWAS and LCAL for
Trent engines to power Airbus A330 and Boeing 787 aircraft. The business is
worth nearly $400 million at list prices.
AWAS, one of the world's largest aircraft lessors, selected the Trent 700 to
power up to six more Airbus A330s. AWAS has firm orders for four aircraft, with
options for two more, with a potential engine value of more than $200 million
to Rolls-Royce.
Dubai-based specialist leasing company LCAL has selected Trent 1000 engines to
power five more Boeing 787-8 aircraft in a deal valued at more than
$170 million.
Rolls-Royce has a leading 50 per cent market share on modern widebody aircraft,
with more than 1,400 Trent engines in service on over 550 aircraft and around
2,500 on backlog. Each of its six Trent engines has either been the first or
launch engine on the airframe, or has gone on to take the leading market share.
The Trent 700 is the market leader on the Airbus A330 with a 53 per cent market
share. It delivers outstanding levels of performance and the highest available
thrust on the A330, resulting in increased operational flexibility.
Latest technologies fed into the engine as a performance improvement package
have created a competitive advantage for the Trent 700. It delivers better fuel
burn, which translates into lower emissions. It is the quietest and cleanest
option for the A330, with the greatest margin to CAEP 4 legislation.
LCAL, which already has six Trent 1000-powered Boeing 787s on firm order, has
based its business exclusively on the Boeing 787. When LCAL was established in
2005 it became the first leasing company to order the aircraft and it will be
the first leasing company to take delivery of the aircraft.
The Trent 1000 maintains the 100 per cent record of Rolls-Royce over the past
two decades in achieving on-time certification for all aero engine development
programmes.
