ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $400M ORDERS IN CHINA FROM BOC AVIATION AND SICHUAN AIRLINES
Rolls-Royce today announced orders worth more than $400 million from customers
in China. BOC Aviation, the leading Asia-based aircraft leasing company, has
selected market-leading Trent 700 engines worth $180 million for five Airbus
A330 freighters. Rolls-Royce also has a $230 million share of an order for
V2500 engines from Sichuan Airlines.
Robert Martin, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BOC Aviation,
said: "The popularity of the Trent 700 with operators around the world ensures
BOC Aviation can not only meet the demands of its customers but that they, in
turn, benefit from utilising the market-leading engine on this airframe."
Nick Devall, Executive Vice President - Airlines, Rolls-Royce said: "This order
demonstrates BOC Aviation's continuing confidence in our products and the
continuing strength of the Trent 700 in the wider marketplace."
The Trent 700 is market leader on the A330 with a 53 per cent market share. It
delivers outstanding levels of performance and the highest available thrust on
the A330, resulting in increased operational flexibility. Latest technologies
fed into the engine as a performance improvement package have delivered better
fuel burn, which translates into lower emissions.
BOC Aviation`s fleet includes 14 Trent-powered widebodies plus 43 V2500-powered
Airbus A320 family aircraft. The V2500 is produced by the International Aero
Engines consortium of which Rolls-Royce is a major shareholder.
Sichaun Airlines has selected V2500 engines to power up to 18 Airbus A320
airliners. The order includes a V2500Select® service contract, which covers the
new aircraft and the 15 A320s already in service with the airline.
Notes to editors:
1. The Trent 700 is the only engine on the A330 that has been specifically
designed for the aircraft, resulting in better lifetime performance,
reliability and maintenance costs. It is also the cleanest option on the
A330, with the greatest margin to CAEP 4 legislation.
2. A programme of continuous improvement, involving the introduction of the
latest Trent family technology to the Trent 700, will ensure increased
benefits to customers, such as the lowest fuel burn of any engine on the
A330.
3. Rolls-Royce is working hard to improve the environmental impact of its
products. Last year Rolls-Royce, in collaboration with its partners,
invested more than £800 million in research and development, two thirds
of which was aimed at reducing the environmental impact of its products.
This technology investment is primarily aimed at reducing noise and emissions.
4. Rolls-Royce has been present in China for over 45 years and is the leading
supplier of engines to China's wide body aircraft fleet, with over 100
Rolls-Royce powered wide body aircraft in service or on order. Between
them, Rolls-Royce and IAE have more than 400 aircraft in service or on firm
order in China, including Hong Kong.
