ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $230M SHARE OF QATAR AIRWAYS ORDER
Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a $230m share of an
order from Qatar Airways for V2500 engines to power a total of 20 Airbus A320
and four A321 aircraft. The contract includes a long-term service agreement.
The V2500 is produced by the International Aero Engines consortium (IAE) in
which Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder. IAE's other partners are
Pratt & Whitney, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: "We have a
reputation for selecting only the best for our airline and we know from
experience that the V2500 is the superior technology engine for the A320
family. It is the most reliable option in the harsh conditions we operate in.
The V2500 SelectOneâ„¢ upgrade also offers us the lowest fuel burn and a
corresponding reduction in emissions."
The 22,000 - 33,000lb thrust V2500 powers the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 family
of aircraft as well as the Airbus Corporate Jetliner. More than 5,500 V2500
engines are in service or on firm order worldwide.
Qatar Airways already operates 21 A320 family aircraft, including two Airbus
Corporate Jetliners, equipped with the V2500.
