ROLLS-ROYCE SECURES $450 MILLION SHARE OF
CHINA SOUTHERN V2500 AGREEMENT
Rolls-Royce will receive up to $450 million from an order for V2500 engines and
aftermarket services for a new fleet of 50 Airbus A320 family aircraft from
China Southern Airlines.
The airline already operates 74 V2500-powered aircraft, including the Boeing
MD-90 and Airbus A319, A320 and A321. It has been operating this engine type
since 1996.
As well as opting for the V2500SelectSM aftermarket support programme to cover
its new fleet of engines, China Southern has also extended this agreement to
encompass its existing fleet.
The V2500 is produced by the International Aero Engines consortium (IAE) in
which Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder. In addition to Rolls-Royce, IAE's
partners are Pratt & Whitney of the United States, the Japanese Aero Engines
Corporation and MTU Aero Engines of Germany.
With a range of thrust from 22,000lb -33,000lb, the V2500-A5 is available to
power the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 as well as the A319 Corporate Jet. More
than 1,300 V2500-powered aircraft have been delivered to over 120 customers to
date and there are more than 5,000 engines delivered or on order.
China Southern also operates four A330s powered by the Trent 700, with ten more
on order with a 10 year TotalCare® support package, and in December 2005, the
airline selected Trent 900 engines for five A380s.
