ROLLS-ROYCE TO POWER EIGHT ADDITIONAL AIRCRAFT FOR CATHAY PACIFIC
Rolls-Royce announced today (14 April) that its engines would power an
additional eight aircraft for Cathay Pacific Airways.
Cathay Pacific has announced plans to purchase two Trent 800 powered Boeing
777s and three Trent 700 powered Airbus A330s. Delivery of these aircraft is
scheduled to begin in April 2005 and August 2006 respectively. The value of the
engine business to Rolls-Royce is $120 million.
In addition to the purchase of these five aircraft, Cathay Pacific will also
lease from ILFC, three Airbus A330s powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines
for delivery beginning June 2005.
Charles Cuddington, Managing Director - Airlines, Rolls-Royce, said: "We're
delighted to announce this repeat order from a long-standing customer such as
Cathay Pacific. It pays testimony to the on-going strength and success of our
Trent family product range."
Cathay Pacific was the launch customer for the Rolls-Royce Trent 700-powered
Airbus A330 in 1995 and the airline went on to select the Trent 800 for its
Boeing 777s. A third member of the Trent family - the Trent 500 - recently
entered service with Cathay's ultra-long-range Airbus A340-600s and will power
the same aircraft on a new Hong Kong to New York service which begins on July 1.
Rolls-Royce already powers 23 Cathay Pacific Airbus A330s, 15 Boeing 777s, 28
Boeing 747s and 3 A340-600s.
