ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $900 MILLION TRENT ORDER FROM EMIRATES
Rolls-Royce announced at the Paris Air Show today (16 June) that it had won an
order worth around $900 million from Emirates for Trent 500 engines to power an
additional 20 long-range Airbus A340s for the Dubai-based airline. In addition,
the deal also incorporates a TotalCare agreement which has been extended to
cover Emirates' entire A340 fleet.
Today's order is made up of two A340-500s and 18 A340-600s, and Emirates has
opted for the high gross weight version of the aircraft, which, like the rest
of the series, is powered solely by the Trent 500. In addition, Emirates will
also lease two A340-600s from ILFC.
The announcement takes the number of A340-500s and -600s ordered by Emirates to
26, the first of which is scheduled for delivery in September 2003. The
aircraft which form today's order will be delivered between 2004 and 2009.
Mike Terrett, President - Civil Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, said: 'Today's
announcement is part of a significant fleet expansion which extends our joint
interests with Emirates through the Trent engine family. Emirates has selected
three members of the Trent series and we are delighted to be sharing in these
latest developments through this new version of the A340.'
Emirates also operates Trent powered Airbus A330s and Boeing 777s.
