Serco awarded £250m contract to continue operating HMP Doncaster

Serco Group plc (Serco), the international service company, announces today
that it has been awarded the contract to continue operating HM Prison and Young
Offender Institution (HMP&YOI) Doncaster. The award was confirmed by the
National Offender Management Service, an executive agency of the UK
Government's Ministry of Justice.

Serco has run the establishment since 1994 and will continue to ensure that it
is a safe, secure, decent, efficient and responsible establishment. The new
contract will commence in October 2011 and is valued at around £250m over 15
years.

As part of the contract, management and staff will be working for the first
time at HMP Doncaster with voluntary sector partners Turning Point and Catch 22
to pilot a rehabilitation programme, on a payment by results basis, to reduce
reoffending. This work will extend beyond the prison so that Serco and its
partners will continue working with offenders after they are released. The
programme will: deliver employment training and education; maintain family
links; secure appropriate accommodation on release; and provide access to a
network of trained volunteer mentors.

Serco is a leading operator of custodial services in the UK, where it operates
four prisons, one young offender institution and a secure training centre. It
has the contract to operate a fifth prison, Belmarsh West, which is currently
under construction.
