Update on review programme
11 September 2013
Further to the Serco Group plc (Serco) announcement, on 28 August, relating to
our Prisoner Escort and Custody Services contract the company today provides an
update on the review programme.
This programme is now underway, identifying any changes necessary to our
practices, processes and procedures. We will also ensure appropriate
transparency between Serco and the customer, supported by a programme of
training. Our Board has established a specific Committee of the Board to
oversee this programme and to resolve any issues emerging from the ongoing
reviews and audits, which are due to be completed by the end of November. Lord
Gold has now been appointed as an independent third-party member of this
Committee. Serco will provide a further update in due course.
Chris Hyman, Group Chief Executive, said:
"Serco is a business led by its values and built on the strength of its
reputation for integrity, and the overwhelming majority of our people work hard
every day to deliver important public services effectively. We will not
tolerate poor practice and behaviour and wherever it is found we will put it
right. I am delighted that someone of Lord Gold's stature and reputation has
agreed to provide independent insight to this important programme. This is an
opportunity to show who we are and what we stand for. We will embed quickly and
effectively any changes needed into the way we do business and I expect Serco
to emerge stronger as a result."
