CLARIFICATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Revised Proxy Form and Letter of Direction for the Annual General Meeting to be held on 20 July 2021
Shareholders are advised that Aberdeen Japan Investment Trust plc (the "Company") has noted a minor error in the Proxy Form (and in the Letter of Direction for use by planholders via Aberdeen Standard Investments' Share Plan and ISA ("ASI Planholders")) in connection with the Annual General Meeting of the Company to be held on Tuesday, 20 July 2021 (the "AGM").
In the table in the Proxy Form and the Letter of Direction setting out the resolutions to be voted on at the AGM, the business at resolution 2 is incorrectly stated and does not match the Notice of AGM dated 7 June 2021 (the "AGM Notice"). The Board would like to clarify that the ordinary resolution numbered 2 in the Proxy Form and the Letter of Direction should accord with the AGM Notice and therefore should read as follows:
"To receive and adopt the Directors' Remuneration Report (excluding the Directors' Remuneration Policy) for the year ended 31 March 2021."
There are no corrections to the AGM Notice which remains unaffected and full details of all the resolutions to be proposed at the AGM are set out in the Annual Report and Accounts for the year ended 31 March 2021 which are available for viewing at www.aberdeenjapan.co.uk.
Save as disclosed above, all other information stated in the Proxy Form and the Letter of Direction remains unchanged. This clarification announcement is supplemental to and should be read in conjunction with the AGM Notice, Proxy Form and Letter of Direction.
A revised form of proxy and letter of direction for use in connection with AGM reflecting the above amendment is available on request from the Company's Registrar, Link Group. Requests can be made via the following:

The date, time and address of the AGM remain unchanged.
Shareholders should note that all validly completed Proxy Forms duly lodged with the Company since 18 June 2021 will be treated as valid unless a revised Proxy Form is received by the Company not less than 48 hours before the time for holding the AGM (i.e. before 9:00 a.m. on Friday, 16 July 2021) in which case the revised Proxy Form or Letter will supersede and replace the former.
ASI Planholders should note that all validly completed Letters of Direction duly lodged with the Company since 18 June 2021 will be treated as valid unless a revised Letter of Direction is received by the Company not less than 5 business days before the time for holding the AGM (i.e. before 9.00 a.m. on Tuesday, 13 July 2021) in which case the revised Letter of Direction will supersede and replace the former.
As stated in the AGM Notice, given the restrictions associated with the Covid-19 pandemic and in accordance with the provisions of the articles of association and Government guidance, physical attendance at the AGM is unlikely to be possible and shareholders are encouraged to exercise their votes by completing and returning their Proxy Forms (appointing the Chairman of the meeting as their proxy) or Letters of Direction in accordance with the instructions contained therein.
