                  APPOINTMENT OF A NEW NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


API Group plc, the specialist packaging company, announced today the appointment
of Martin O'Connell as a Non-executive Director with effect from 1 May.


Mr O'Connell (55) recently retired as an Executive Director of Field Group, the
printed paperboard packaging company, and as a Senior Vice President of
Chesapeake Corporation, its US parent. He has 30 years' experience of the
packaging industry and played a key role in the successful expansion of the
Field Group in Europe. Following the acquisition of the Field Group by
Chesapeake Corporation in 1999, Mr O'Connell had responsibility for its
International and Branded Products division in Europe. He is a qualified
Chartered Accountant and has also held a number of senior operational finance
positions.


Commenting on the appointment, Richard Wright, Non-executive Chairman, said:


'Martin has extensive experience of the packaging industry, both in the UK and
internationally, and is a valuable addition to the Board. In addition, he has
particular knowledge and recent experience of the markets for premium-branded
goods packaging, which we believe are key to the future development of the
Group.'


In the past five years Mr O'Connell has been, but is no longer, an Executive
Director of Field Group plc. There is no further information which is required
to be disclosed under paragraph 9.6.13 of the Listing Rules.
