Contract Signed with global IT leader ICT

Advanced Oncotherapy (AIM: AVO), the developer of the next generation of particle therapy with protons for cancer treatment, announces that they have contracted global technology leader ICT Automatisering ("ICT") to develop the software systems to manage patient workflow by the proprietary LIGHT accelerator.

The work flow for delivering cost effective proton beam therapy requires an integrated approach of all processes - from the first patient consultation to final day of treatment - to deliver the optimal treatment in each session.

With the acquisition of ADAM, a spin-off of CERN, Advanced Oncotherapy has developed the LIGHT accelerator to produce a high energy proton beam system in a most economical, efficient and cost-effective manner. The aim is to integrate the LIGHT accelerator within a fully-operational treatment facility including detailed data and process management to achieve the highest level of operational efficiency. This is achieved through tight integration of software and hardware solutions to ensure optimal interoperability.

AVO chose ICT after an extensive review because of their expertise in medical software standards, their domain knowledge in radiation therapy and their broad expertise in parallel industries.

AVO's Product Development team lead, Dr Hanne Kooy, Associate Professor of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, commented: "ICT's extensive experience with work flow architecture ensures full utilisation of the unique LIGHT characteristics to maximise patient treatment outcomes."

Based in the Netherlands, ICT Automatisering provides high-quality IT solutions in information and communication technology, with a particular focus on Automotive, Machine & Systems, Industrial Automation, Logistics, Energy and Healthcare. ICT has an annual turnover of nearly €80m works across Europe in the Netherlands, Germany and Poland and employs approximately 750 highly qualified personnel.

Jan-Willem Doosje, Business Development Manager ICT Automatisering, commented: "We are proud to advise AVO on the complex infrastructure which is needed for the integration of their LIGHT accelerator in the radiation oncology department. Our experiences gained in applying the standards in Radiation Oncology such as set by DICOM and IHE-RO (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise - Radiation Oncology) will be of added value for the design of the infrastructure needed for the Advanced Oncotherapy proton delivery solution."

Sanjeev Pandya, CEO of Advanced Oncotherapy, commented: "After a review of the specialist companies working in this area, we have chosen ICT because of their commercial expertise and their close working relationship with the authorities who review and regulate the use of radiation therapies.  This is another significant step towards achieving our goal of delivering and installing our first LIGHT system at the beginning of 2016."

About Advanced Oncotherapy Plc

AVO's team based at CERN near Geneva focuses on the development of a proprietary proton accelerator called Linac Image Guided Hadron Technology (LIGHT). LIGHT accelerates protons to the energy levels achieved in legacy machines but in a unit that is a quarter of the size and between a quarter and a fifth of the cost. This compact configuration delivers proton beams in a way that facilitates a greater precision and electronic control which is not achievable with older technologies.

AVO is a provider of particle therapy with protons that harnesses the best in modern technology.  As a result, the Company will offer healthcare providers affordable systems that will enable them to treat cancer with an innovative technology which is proven to bring better health outcomes and lower treatment related side effects.

AVO continually monitors the market for any emerging improvements in delivering proton therapy and actively seeks working relationships with providers of these innovative technologies. Through these relationships the Company will remain the prime provider of innovative and cost-effective equipment for proton radiation. This will allow healthcare suppliers to access more cost effective and more efficient ways to treat the increasing number of cancer patients who expect lower short term and long term side effects of their cancer care.

About ICT's Healthcare domain

In the Healthcare domain ICT has 35 years of experience in linking systems under the header interoperability / Medical Data Exchange. The number of ICT engineers in this area has increased over the years, and the company combined their expertise in the Healthcare vertical. Their expertise goes way beyond technology nowadays, as it now also covers sector and broad and extensive domain know-how. Initially, ICT's operating domain was the hospitals/institutions in general. Nowadays ICT Healthcare focuses more specifically on medical data exchange within medical software development, and with a specialization in the 'niche' market of radiation therapy. Radiotherapy is a niche market with few active providers and a market in which customized solutions are virtually unheard of.  ICT has made a strategic choice to focus its Medical Data Exchange-related efforts on the fields of radiation therapy and big data domains such as (digital) pathology.  ICT has multiple customers in the radiation therapy domain varying from companies, institutions to standardization committees.
