AMINO WILL PROVIDE IPTV FOR COSTA RICA
Amino Technologies plc (AIM: AMO.L), the independent IPTV specialist, has won the Costa Rican licitation to provide set-top boxes (STBs) to support a major IPTV rollout by the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE - Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad).
The network operator plans to launch services in the first half of 2010, targeting up to 100,000 homes across the country. Amino will work closely with systems integrator ITS on the service rollout and will provide 38,000 units including its A125, A130M and A530 DVR (digital video recorder) STBs phased over the next two years.
ICE spokesman Adolfo Arias, Services Division Manager, said: "IPTV will provide our customers the better of the three worlds: video, voice and data. Also the opportunity to enter a new world of business and entertainment."
Amino CEO, Andrew Burke, added: "One of our key strengths is our eco-system and our ability to integrate with a wide range of middleware partners. This new contract underlines this - and we look forward to working with our partners on this exciting new development in IPTV deployments in Central America."
ICE is the state-owned network operator in Costa Rica and offers a range of fixed, mobile and broadband communications services and power across the country. Systems integrator ITS will manage the deployment working with Amino, Minerva Networks, Harmonic, ATEME and Widevine equipment.
