MPEG4 Product Launch

Amino Technologies PLC 06 June 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 6 June 2005 AMINO TECHNOLOGIES PLC AMINO LAUNCHES MASS-MARKET MPEG-4 IPTV SET-TOP BOX Amino Technologies plc ('Amino'; stock code : AMO), the Cambridge based broadband network software and systems company, announces the commercial launch and availability of its AmiNET124 IPTV (internet protocol TV) set-top box, its first product to support the new H.264 compression codec, also known as MPEG-4 AVC. Shipments to customers are scheduled to commence in July 2005. The ability to initiate commercial shipments quickly reflects the efficiency and portability of Amino's software stack. The new compression technology utilises up to 40 percent less network bandwidth. This enables telcos to offer IPTV services over slower speed ADSL broadband networks than hitherto, increasing subscriber reach and revenue. The AmiNET124 is expected to set a new benchmark in deployment costs, making the adoption of MPEG-4 AVC commercially attractive to telcos due to its cost-effective design and compatibility with most leading middleware and conditional access providers. The AmiNET 124 is easily installed by the subscriber and features a field-upgradeable software platform to support future technology enhancements without significant additional cost to the IPTV service provider. Mike Arden, senior analyst at ABI Research, a US-based leading electronics industry research consultancy, commented, 'IPTV technology is booming and Telcos are keen to take advantage of increased potential revenues offered by advanced compression formats.' He continued, 'However, they must ensure that the cost of implementing this advanced technology does not become prohibitive.' The AmiNET124 will be demonstrated by Amino at the Supercomm exhibition in Chicago from the 6th to the 9th June 2005.
