Board Appointment
Agriterra Limited, the AIM-quoted African agricultural company, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Amanda Thorburn as an additional independent non-executive director of the Company with immediate effect.
Ms Thorburn, an associate chartered management accountant, has nearly 25 years' experience of working in Southern Africa across a variety of financial and advisory roles focussed on the telecoms and agribusiness sectors. Having begun her career as a management consultant with Coopers & Lybrand in Zimbabwe, Ms Thorburn has also worked for multinationals including MTN, Virgin Mobile and Econet, where she held the position of Head of Group Finance. In the mid-2000s, Ms Thorburn established her own baby linen manufacturing company, accessing fabric supply chain in Zimbabwe and an NGO production line in South Africa, creating a strong "proudly African" brand. From June 2011, Ms Thorburn has focused her attention on the agricultural sector, initially through Global Mobility Consulting where amongst other matters she has advised on a strategic business review of the Surrey Group including Sabie Meats in Zimbabwe, developed performance management systems and identified and implemented projects to improve operational and financial efficiencies. As founder and managing director of Agrisat, Ms Thorburn has consulted and advised on various aspects of numerous other agriculture projects in the region with a strong focus on value chain development in the livestock sector. She continues to lobby for fundraising to link smallholder producers to local, regional and international export markets and was pivotal in the launch of the Southern African Region Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (SARRSB) in 2018. Her passion is designing, implementing and managing commercial beef agri-hubs in Southern Africa as producer, private, public, community partnerships - "PPPCP's" - with the flagship Agrisat Beef Hub in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa.
The Board welcomes the appointment of Ms Thorburn and believes that the Company will benefit from her significant industry focussed expertise and broader regional operating experience. In particular, the Board hope to take advantage of her insight into commercially, environmentally and socially sustainable beef value chains with market linkages, animal health support and capacity building, in the context of its Mozambique operations.
As required by Schedule 2(g) of the AIM Rules, the Company confirms that Amanda Thorburn, aged 47, is currently a director/partner, or has been a director/partner in the past five years, of the companies listed below:
