DTI Energy White Paper
Alkane Energy plc ('Alkane'), the UK's leading commercial producer of Coal Mine
Methane ('CMM') from abandoned coal mines, has welcomed the comments made
yesterday in the Government's Energy White Paper.
This is the first time that CMM has been referred to in any Government energy
document and Alkane is encouraged that the Government has recognised that CMM
represents 'a material environmental problem', is 'a legacy to be managed' and
accepts 'the need to move to control CMM emissions'.
Alkane will be announcing preliminary results for the year ended 31st December
2002 on Thursday, 13th March and a considered response to the White Paper and
its implications for the company will appear in the Chairman's Statement.
