Directors' Interests

The Company announces that it has been notified by Mrs Cynthia Carroll, Chief
Executive of the Company, of the sale of 42,754 Anglo American plc ordinary
shares on 9 April 2008 at a price of £33.55 per share. The purpose of the sale
is to raise funds in relation to a house purchase following her relocation to
the UK.

Following the sale, Mrs Carroll now has an interest over 228,787 ordinary
shares.

The notification of these transactions is to satisfy the Company's obligations
under both the Companies Act and the Financial Services Authority Disclosure and
Transparency Rules 3.1.2 to 3.1.4
