Anglo American clears final injunction to construct Minas-Rio power transmission line |
|
|
Anglo American plc ("Anglo American") announces that it has secured the removal of the third and final major injunction that has affected the construction of its 26.5 mtpa Minas-Rio iron ore project in Brazil.
As announced in November 2012, work has continued to resolve a number of licensing challenges facing the project. These included three injunctions affecting construction activities at the beneficiation plant and the installation of an electricity transmission line, and land access issues affecting the 525 km pipeline route.
Following the satisfactory removal of two of the three injunctions during September 2012, enabling construction of the primary crusher and conveyor system at the mine site and pre-stripping work to resume, Anglo American has now secured the removal of the third injunction, which has affected the installation of the 90km electricity transmission line and work will begin immediately.
Work is continuing to complete the land access programme for the pipeline. Construction progress is on schedule in relation to the elements of the project programme that have been unaffected by legal or land access constraints.
Anglo American will provide a further update when it reports its preliminary results for 2012 on 15 February 2013.
